Ingredients

  • 12 oz spaghetti
  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey
  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 24 oz marinara sauce
  • 1 tsp dried Italian herbs (oregano, basil, thyme)
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook Spaghetti: In a large pot, cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. Prepare Meat Sauce:
    • In a skillet, sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic over medium heat until translucent.
    • Add the ground beef or turkey, cooking until browned. Drain excess fat.
    • Stir in the marinara sauce and Italian herbs. Let simmer for 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Assemble Casserole:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine cooked spaghetti, ricotta cheese, and half of the mozzarella cheese.
    • Spread half of the meat sauce in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
    • Layer half of the spaghetti mixture, then the remaining meat sauce, followed by the rest of the spaghetti mixture.
    • Top with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  5. Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  6. Serve: Let the casserole sit for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil, if desired.
