  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with paper liners or grease it lightly.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk the buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Combine Mixtures: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently fold until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; it’s okay if there are a few lumps.
  5. Add Extras: If desired, fold in chocolate chips or berries at this stage.
  6. Fill Muffin Tin: Divide the batter evenly among the muffin cups, filling each about 2/3 full.
  7. Bake: Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean.
  8. Cool: Allow the muffins to cool in the tin for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
