Pesto Hummus Recipe

Pesto Hummus Recipe

I adore pesto hummus recipe for countless reasons, one being its versatility in flavor. A simple way to elevate your hummus is by mixing in a dollop of pesto, adding a fresh twist to your usual routine. You can easily whip up this herby pesto hummus from scratch using the recipe below, or just stir some pesto into your favorite store-bought version!

How to Use Pesto Hummus Recipe

The herbal notes from the pesto make this hummus ideal for dipping veggies or spreading on sandwiches. I recently swapped it for cheese in my breakfast egg “quesadilla,” and it was a HUGE hit! Hummus and eggs are a fantastic combo, and pesto fits right in. I can’t help but picture this hummus generously spread on two slices of artisan whole wheat bread, piled high with tasty veggies—and maybe a slice of havarti. Alright, enough daydreaming about food for now; I’ll stick with my veggie sticks!

Do You Need a Food Processor ?

I think food processors are the best for making hummus, as blenders often struggle with thicker mixtures—unless you have a top-of-the-line blender that can handle anything!

I use a Hamilton Beach model that I picked up for around $50, though it’s pricier on Amazon now—probably because it’s been discontinued. Here’s a newer, similar option. It’s a shame if mine isn’t being made anymore, because I absolutely love it! It’s compact, affordable, and a real powerhouse in the kitchen!

Hummus Shortcut

As I mentioned in the intro, if you’re not in the mood to make your own hummus, just stir ¼ cup of pesto into a 16oz container of store-bought hummus—no shame in that! Plus, Aldi’s hummus is delicious and budget-friendly, making it nearly as good as homemade.

How to Make Pesto Hummus Recipe– Step by Step

  • Drain one 15oz. can of chickpeas and add it to a food processor along with 1/4 cup lemon juice, 1/4 cup olive oil, 1/4 cup tahini, 1/4 cup basil pesto, 1/4 tsp salt, and 1/8 tsp garlic powder (or one clove fresh garlic).
  • Use little jar of basil pesto, It contains about 3/4 cup and was $3.99, which isn’t bad if you don’t have access to fresh basil to make it yourself!  Basil pesto is very potent, so you really don’t need a lot of it to really pump up a recipe. This little jar will probably end up being utilized in three recipes or so.
  • Process the ingredients until the hummus is smooth. You may need to add more liquid to thin it out a bit and to get it really smooth. You can add water, olive oil, or some of the liquid from the can of beans. Just add a tablespoon or two at a time until the mixture processes smoothly.
  • And that’s all it takes to make Pesto Hummus!
